Having blended two levels together, we can use the knowledge of somes to stimulate the learning of others.
Today, it was around the ochard, with words like:
huerta, árbol, manzana.
The objective is to help our students to naturally build sentences like:
En la huerta, hay cuatro árboles.
That's already rich in new concepts !

Miércoles 29 de octubre

We started a new year of Spanish with new things and new substances.
The goal is to acquire more vocabulary and confidence working from a theme and a text.
Today, it was about bears, with new words like:
ojos, orejas, cabeza, patas, fuerte, ...
Our students wrote it down, it will be a reading practice and also for this week, a translation exercise.

Miercoles 28 de mayo

This afternoon, the whole group was present so we reviewed the family terms and played all together that card game to practice asking and replying about building families.
It was a nice review and fun to say things in Spanish and to understand without translating.
The time past by fast. Next week is our little celebration gig, around 2:15, we'll have all the classes together to celebrate our year of learning.

Miercoles 21 de mayo

In order to use our acquired knowledge, we reviewed some vocabulary about the family, the different members, and different occupations, in order to be able to play that family card game.
Our students did so, in Spanish, asking their partners, for example: "Quiero la madre de la familia de los mecanicos" and building up families as they played.
It was fun and also encouraging to notice how easier it is now to say something in Spanish.
We'll do it again a next time, as more practice is the key.

Miercoles 14 de mayo

With a heat wave in town, we practiced numbers and counting. To do so, using dice, we learned a new game with chips and went outside under tree shade to test our skills.
It was fun to play, it was fun to count and put numbers together.
Time went by very fast and soon the class was over.

Miercoles o7 de mayo

Today we started our exploration of the bank and the money, creating our own 'billetes' printed by our own 'banco'.
The objective now is to use the concept to sell and buy things between students using Spanish.
We'll continue next week with more 'vender' y more 'comprar'.

Miercoles 3o de abril

I brought the students little pictures full of new vocabulary.
The objective of this lesson was to use location words: cerca de, en, bajo, ... in sentences to describe a situation and to be able to create longer sentences.
These pictures also being part of a word recognition game, we then played it to see what we knew so far and how much fun we can now get from our knowledge.

Miercoles 23 de abril

Official Earth Day being yesterday, we created a list of words related to the subject. Right after, we made another booklet illustrated with drawings and sentences created by the students.
It appeared that it seems easier to them to put words together to create sentences. You could thus help your child by having him/her read again in order to practice and remember.
Feliz Dia de la Tierra !

Miercoles 16 de abril

Easter being around, we shared a list of words, used them in sentences, and created a booklet including all these elements.
Your child worked on making up his/her own sentences, mainly using a pattern like:
"For Easter, I ...", that is "Para Pascua, yo...", helping them to feel more confident with their knowledge.
Next week, it will be about Earth Day.

miercoles 9 de abril

We came back from our break and continued discovering new words to build up new sentences by ourselves. This week, the theme was 'Easter' and our students did a very great job creating their own sentences, like "Para Pascua, yo quiero dulces de chocolate".
Then, everybody was trying to write about what came up in their mind, with again, two shining stars for a right sentence.
Those stars are now piling up on a little trophy-shaped card, no doubt it will be soon all covered !

Today we worked on creating sentences;
from a list of words around a theme, the kids then tried to make up their own sentences, with a reward of two star stickers for each right sentence.
Then relying on their acquired knowledge, our young students describe a stuffed 'monster' they had in front of their eyes, so we realized that they could easily write and say sentences like:
"Mi monstruo tiene es amarillo y tiene dos ojos negros".

It will be Spring break next week, so we'll see again in two weeks !

Miércoles 19 de marzo

Today was a special day for many reasons:
i- Senor Lobo went to teach to the Chiquitos class;
ii- Abuela Lobo came to replace him for the occasion;
iii- we grouped our 2 classes together for a cooking lesson;
iv- Abuela Lobo came with flan !!

So the lesson was about the empanadas the kids made and cooked last time;
we drew the ingredients, made a list and wrote a text about the recipe.
That was much work and we finished the class with a delicious flan served with dulce de leche, specially made by Abuela Lobo; yummy !!

Next week will be the last week before Spring Break
hasta pronto !!

Miércoles 12 de marzo

In order to put into practice the concept of verbs and working on sentences, we built up today a school schedule with the days and the periods.
Introducing notions like "antes de..." and "después de...", your child can express sentences situated in time.
And that's what we do with a little incentive into it: For each sentence written by them, independently, two shining stars will be stuck on a trophy to show their progressions.
We'll get more next week !!

Miércoles o5 de marzo

Today, Señor Lobo had decided to make and cook empanadas, so we joined his group to discover that aspect of the Argentine cuisine. The instructions were given in Spanish and our little cooks succeeded in making a little bag full of those delicacies.
This entertaining activity will help us learn new verbs and new terms for future lessons.

Miércoles 26 de febrero

We practiced our discovery of the conjugation, learning new -AR verbs to build more and  more sentences like: "Yo canto una canción." It was an opportunity to review our High-Frequency words and to add now ones:
"yo", "tú", "tu", "él", "el" and "ella". We finished our class with a word game, the funniest way to remember words and to realize how much we already learned.

Miércoles 19 de febrero

This lesson was an introduction to the basic conjugation of regular Spanish verbs ending in -AR. As a model, we took "hablar" that we conjugated as: yo hablo tù hablas él habla ella habla From this, your child can use a lot of -AR verbs in the present tense, and we started with some useful ones. Then, enjoying the sun, we played with words on a table outside putting into practice what we just learned. And we'll continue next week !! Hasta Luego !!

Miércoles 12 de febrero

Today we made Valentine cards for Friday, and to see how much we already knew in a playful way, we took out a Scrabble game and tried to form as many words as we could from ten letters. It is a very practical game that I recommend you to play at home, it helps your child to venture into the language, in a funny way, and to recognize words patterns. After a practice time, we then built words on the board learning how to form Spanish long words.

Today we moved to another room and continued with a book about the Chinese New Year. We read it, learned new words and then understood the little story. From it, we wrote short sentences to get acquainted to those new words.

Miércoles 29 de enero

The children wanted to play with the Wheel of Colors; so we built a Rueda de Colores, and then, in short sentences, we tried to play with those colors. The objective is to acquire the masculine/feminine concept and to be able to build longer correct sentences. This week being the beginning of the Chinese Year of the Horse, we seized the opportunity to learn about snakes (this ending year) and horses, and to write sentences about those new words. Because it will be another New Year: ¡¡Feliz Año Nuevo!!

Miércoles 22 de enero

Because we are studying in the art room, why not use what's around us to learn new things ?
So we made a Spanish "rueda de colores" to practice colors and writing sentences.
The final objective is to build up sentences using nouns, adjectives and prepositions to locate something or someone. Reviewing what has been seen so far is very useful for the next weeks.

Miércoles 15 de enero

Back to our normal group, we caught up on last week, with one pair reading to the other.
Then we worked on writing sentences using our high-frequency words and some other important locating prepositions. The objective is to answer a question like "Donde està el/la ... ?"
That aspect of the language will keep us busy for some classes.

Miércoles o8 de enero

Back to our Spanish classes with a reduced number of students, so we seized the opportunity to do some reviews and to create some booklets about new stories.
From a short text, our students copied it down, worked on the understanding of new words and then tried to translate it. That way, they could realize that they could understand and read it really faster than they thought. Because they walked back home with that booklet, you can encourage your child to read it to you in order to practice reading skills.
