Miercoles 25 de marzo

Easter is coming soon and fast; for that occasion we all made our own booklet about the topic, introducing the usual words about the celebration and writing more sentences about that special day in a school year.
You can help your child by having her read that booklet and writing more using the vocabulary we all shared for Easter.

And above all: Happy Easter !

The students wanted a challenge for the class, so I had for them a sheet full of sentences to translate from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English, using our words and expressions learned during the last weeks.
It was very interesting to see how thrilled everybody was to work on that project and to succeed in completing those sentences. It's very encouraging for a next time.

We added numbers to our lesson, basic counting forward to also backward. We put it into practice with dates, age and time.
Playing at home with numbers in Spanish would help your child get more familiar with those new concepts.

Miercoles o4 de marzo

Today we worked on dates and how to tell when a person was born. We went through the calendar and formed basic sentences as.
"Yo naci en el mes de abril"
Step by step our sentences are getting longer and require regular practice to stay alive.

Miercoles 25 de febrero

Today we put our cards together to have it ready for next week.
In the meantime,we discovered the Chinese zodiac so that we could talk about animals, birthdays and siblings.

In order to put everything into practice, today we made our own card game, so that each student had to imagine a family, with a name and members, thus adding more words to our knowledge.
We tested it by creating sentences telling what they had and what they were asking for.

We practiced again, this time in teams. Thanks to the practice, the game was faster, words came out easily, and by the end, some families were reunited, for the fun of our students.

So, if practice could be carried on at home, all the better !

Miercoles 4 de febrero

After reviewing our new words about family members, the class played our card game so that they could use new sentences :
Yo quiero ...
Yo tengo ... b
and it took us the whole time to enjoy discovering the game.

Next week will be more fun  !

Miercoles 28 de enero

Writing is one thing, speaking is another.
So in prevision for a game we'll play next week, we reviewed some words that the whole will use in sentences when playing that card game.
Because it involves family members, we learned them and using them at home will help your child to memorize those basic words:
el hijo / la hija, el padre/la madre, el abuelo/la abuela,
the trick being to grasp the concept of masculine/feminine.

We'll put that in practice next week !

Miercoles 21 de enero

I gathered the kids around an image to help them develop what we saw last week. This time, we were looking at a little town with many characters in it.
It was the opportunity to introduce some verbs in order to create sentences like:
Yo veo tres globos negros en la ciudad.

It might be time for you to help your child develop that base with some basic Spanish books that you can find in our Public Library downtown.

Miercoles 14 de enero

The objective of this part of the year is to have our students be able to build their own little sentences. The first step is the acquisition of vocabulary, and we used our classroom environment to start with. Then we tried to tell where things were around us.
So we ended the hour with sentences like:
La television esta entre el pizarron blanco y la ventana,
which will be our first block for longer sentences.

MiƩrcoles 14 de diciembre

Right before Christmas break, we seized the opportunity to share ideas to write and make Christmas cards for the whole group.
Even though the sentences were basic, they helped review the patterns we already saw previously, that is masculine/feminine, singular/plural.

We'll continue the good work as soon as we meet again in January.
Happy new year - Feliz ano nuevo !
